A self-proclaimed Jenn-of-many-trades, they are a queer visual artist, intersectional feminist, and community builder. With an academic background in Gender Studies from Memorial University, Jennifer has extensive knowledge of gender in/equalities, political systems, and social-justice.
With a passion for access to resources, education and information, Jennifer has focused her career on dismantling barriers for youth and marginalized communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. Currently, Jennifer is coordinating the Launch Program with YWCA St. Johns, a supportive employment program for marginalized youth in NL.
Outside of this role, they have worked and volunteered with several organizations in Newfoundland, including their previous role with YWCA St. John’s as Youth Programs Coordinator. Jennifer volunteers on the Board of Directors with Art Force NL, and the Camp Eclipse NL Leadership Team (and as Mentor to 2SLGBTQIA+ youth). Jennifer also serves on an external committee for Thrive, supporting with fundraising, marketing and communications strategies. They have worked with Memorial University as a Film Editor and Researcher, Event Planner, and Community Programs Assistant, and with Thrive as the Directory of Services Assistant, and Education Programs Assistant.
Jennifer volunteered with the Quadrangle NL (PIVOT Health Advocacy Skills Program) in 2019-2020. In this program, they moderated a 9-part webinar series centering inclusive sexual health care and education, and 2SLGBTQIA+ community activism. In 2020, Jennifer participated in the Equal Voice NL Campaign College to improve their leadership skills in politics and governance.
Looking to the future, they envision inclusive communities that are truly inclusive with equitable access to health care, education and supports diverse voices at all levels of decision-making tables.
